4 Months on the Road
As I was slowly making my way up a never ending scree slope to gain a ridgeline in Jasper National Park my thoughts turned to the last 4 months. We have driven many miles, trekked so many trails, climbed a few peaks, paddled a lot of water and met a huge variety of people.
I have also gone to bed fully clothed with a hat on as it’s been so cold, been scared senseless whilst coming across bears on the trail, got lost in Walmart, had to turn back and admit that I’m just not strong enough to do that climb and missed family and friends.
BUT, it’s been full of new discoveries.
I never knew I would enjoy doing laundry in a laundromat, some even have an espresso bar and WIFI. Nor that I would be unable to pass a public flush toilet without using it, the pit ones can be a bit hit or miss on the cleanliness side literally! I also could not understand how anyone could spend hours glued to their laptop in a coffee shop or at a WIFI spot, but now find I am one of them. I chat to everyone, be it locals,
fellow overlanders, campers or hikers they are all quizzed about where they have come from and where are they going. Campfires, not something I have really paid much attention to, it’s usually a guy thing, like barbecues, but I can now set and light one - when Dave’s not around, obviously! Not showering every day, who would have thought a bowl of warm water could be so refreshing!
BUT, it’s been one hell of a crazy, fun filled, adventure….roll on the next four I say.
