Driving West from Colorado to California
I have lost count of the number of mountain ranges we have summited, the miles of scenic highways we've driven, the scenic overlooks we've passed or the gas stations we've refuelled at to arrive at the coast, but it's all been amazing. From the windy warmth of Colorado and it's dust storms and snow capped 14,000ers to the incredible red rock canyons of Utah, into the beautiful mountains and plains of Nevada to the pine covered hills and lakes of California, it's all been amazing. And it isn't just the scenery, we have met so many incredible people, from the owner of an old pony express station in Nevada who took us out into the mountains in his ATV and the antique dealer in Colorado who lives in a Buddhist colony which has the only licence in the US for open cremations to the 83 year old who is still working in a National Park because "When I quit, I die!".
Having reached the coast we will now be travelling North as we have two weeks before we catch a ferry to carry us to Alaska, can't wait to find out what the coastal scenery will be like and the people we'll meet. But first, it's Friday night and we've been in the boonies for 12 nights so time for a beer I think.
