Whirlwind First Week
The conversation for the past couple of years has been, "Yeah we just have to buy a truck, stick a camper on the back and off we go, simple"; No, not so simple, but then we never do simple, Simple would have been not quitting our jobs and moving back into our house in the UK.
Firstly it's a bit like the chicken or the egg, which comes first. We decided to go for the camper as Colorado is full of trucks right, wrong, not gas ones.
After driving around Colorado we found 2 that we liked, one that fitted a long and one a short bed size. Neither was perfect, but there is always a compromise.
So off around the car dealerships we went of Poncha Springs, Salida, Canon City, Colorado Springs and Pueblo. The first one nearly had us running for the hills as we were bombarded by salespersons vying for our business, but we overcame our fear, manned up and stated what we were looking for. We finally found one that fitted our needs, shortbed, gas, 4x4, F250, the only problem was it was bright red and a higher spec than we wanted - not ideal for being inconspicuous in Central and South America. But being the impatient couple that we are and so keen to get on the road we bought it.
So here we are, congratulating ourselves on having secured a pre-owned truck and camper within our budget whilst coping with jet lag and horrible colds. Now we just have to get them insured………OMG, that's another story.
